Hasselt. Belgium. Never heard of it? Thought Belgium was only good for its extensive beer selection, good chocolates and a fine packet of chips with mayo? Well you’re wrong. There’s a marvellous arts centre there called Z33, I believe it’s publicly funded so they get to do what they fancy and this leads to a wide and varied programme. Visiting at the weekend they have created what I’d describe as a post-mod-rave-tribal vibe. Philip Metten’s Innercoma installation offers fluoro walls and a video piece with a protagonist that’s a jay-kay (jamiroquai) hat wearing demi-god revealing the secret wonders of the world, featuring hot cowl-wearing lady.
